three things i love

1. A quote I love: ‎"It's a topsy-turvy world, and maybe the problems of two people don't amount to a hill of beans. But this is our hill. And these are our beans!" In honor of Leslie Nielson, of course. But isn't it true? In the moment, it always matters.

2. I had the best moment today - really, one of the top five in my professional life: I have spent a year working with a little boy who is nonverbal. He will occasionally repeat a word (think "uh-oh" or "ball") but has no functional communication. This little boy is older than Silas, and he has no way of telling his parents what he wants, or thinks, or needs. Today, he counted to ten. Over and over, spontaneously, out of nowhere - after a year of saying nothing. It was exciting, to be sure, but the best part of all was his dad's reaction. He jumped up, gasped, danced, called family members on the phone, cheered ... and then he stood there, silent, listening, before saying to me, "That's what his voice sounds like!"

Just ... wow.

3. My kids love to hear the stories of their births. Tonight Brian was telling Silas his - what we were doing on the day he was born, how we went to the hospital and were so surprised to find out he was on his way, how we were holding him just a couple of hours later. When it was over, Silas said, "Then I said, 'Look out below!'" And it just made me LAUGH, friends, because I cannot think of a better way to describe Silas' entrance or effect on my life. Look out, indeed.

Oh, that made me cry. After a day of serious talks about how the yelling in this house has to stop - wow. Color me convicted. Lord may I be ever thankful for the sounds of my babies' voices. Loud and shrill as they may be.

I am picturing that joyful father in my mind. I am seeing Jesus, jumping for joy, tears in His eyes, when we finally speak to Him. So that is why our voices sound like.

Yes, #2...tears. And Praise! Amazing way to start December.

#3...What is it with "Look out Below!" Andrew has been running around repeating that phrase for a few days now. Makes me laugh.

#2 has me in tears too. May I never get frustrated at the incessant questions my son asks. What a blessing to be able to hear his voice, albeit frequent.

#3 is hilarious! I needed that.

What a beautiful Christmas present for all, especially the father whose son spoke for the first time this week.

God bless us everyone.
