Because I don't want to forget

1. I rolled over at 2 a.m. (I stir every three hours - exactly the times Emmy will likely eat, once she gets into a routine. Isn't that so very odd? Also, I'd like to be able to reason with my body, and say SLEEP WHILE THE GETTING'S GOOD. Just like I'd like to reason with my body to say, Seriously, there's no reason to prepare for labor with loosening joints and random contractions. YOU'RE HAVING A C-SECTION. But you can't argue with biology. I digress) ... I rolled over at 2 a.m. and thought of you guys. Actually, I thought of a picture that my friend Jamie took, and sent to me last night (I promised her I would wait for her final edit before publishing them, but I can't wait to share) ... I thought of the picture, me with these two little boys of mine, ready to POP with number three ... how full my life is, how thankful I am. And how it is sweeter because I had to wait for it. I thought all of this at 2 a.m., and then I wanted to tell you guys, so I got out of bed and sat down on the couch, before deciding blogging at 2 a.m. is not so wise, really, but by then I was awake for the day. Awakened by gratitude. And you.

I guess there are worse things.

2. Another - okay, this is a little gross. Don't say I didn't warn you. But it's so funny - and I really don't want to forget it - that I'm sharing it anyway. And because my boy is a boy, who will one day be a guy, I have a hard time thinking this story will embarrass him when he's older. I am more apt to believe he will one day be very proud of his quick wit, even as a little kid.

Yesterday after breakfast Asher started complaining that his stomach hurt. I've mentioned to you guys our narrow escape from the stomach bug, so stomach aches still make me glance nervously at Brian before feigning nonchalance with the afflicted child. For half an hour Asher lay on the floor (he didn't even want to go to the couch) whining and whimpering that his stomach hurt. I took a shower and said a prayer (pleaseGodspareusfromthestomachbugamen), and as I was getting dressed, Asher ran into my room. "Mom, guess what! I burped real big, and I blew my tummy ache out of my mouth!" No, he did not throw up. He had gas. One good burp apparently was all he needed.

Nice.

3. And this - Remember my consignment glory in August? Well Asher has had a growth spurt since then, and only two of the shirts fit. Two. Out of umpteen. When I was growing up, my dad always took me shopping for school clothes. So this afternoon my dad picked up Asher to stock up on long sleeved t-shirts and army boots (the boy has moved into the stage where a monster truck t-shirt is way cooler than anything his mom might pick out. Alas). It was fun to me to see my dad pick him up - a passing of the torch, I suppose.

4. Last, an announcement. Let it be known that on this day - the day after daylight savings began, when both boys had been up late the night before anyway, and were crazy-eyed tired by 6 p.m. - on this day, Asher and Silas combined bedrooms. There's never a good time to do it, and Emmy will be here in less than eight weeks (eek!). So we just went for it tonight.

I put Silas to bed at 6:50ish, Asher to bed about 6:55. And I haven't heard a word from either of them.

Whew! And thanks be to God.

The end.

I envy your bedtime ease. And time. Even with the time change, Olivia didn't go to sleep until after nine last night. And got up with the sun. But you need the ease with #3 on the way!

5692613Life deals us the unexpected sometimes -- what we think will be difficult in reality isn't.

And the little things we didn't expect can throw us off course. In your case, I expect nothing will deter you and your sweet family.

On their shopping trip (mostly to Bass Pro), Big Daddy and Asher ate pizza, to which Asher warned, "Big Daddy, pizza's real bad for you." Then he ate four pieces.

I cannot believe how big the boys have gotten! They are adorable and I can't wait to see pictures of little Emmy when she arrives!
