one more

Silas came barreling in from outside a few minutes ago, carrying a toy bat in from the backyard. I saw him out of the corner of my eye, but was busy - slicing chicken? I think - and he seemed very intent on something, so I did not give him much thought. A few minutes later he called, "Ready Mom?" Again he sounded busy with some imaginary game or another, so I called back, "Ready!" Silence. A minute or two later it occurred to me that giving blind consent to a toddler's Plan was not my wisest parenting move, so I walked into the sun room (play room) to check on him. He was standing on the desktop of the built-in bookshelves, saying to no one in particular, "Ooh, Daddy's going to have to clean it up." He had taken his toy bat and hit the lamp like a baseball, shattering the bulb all over the floor and train table. Purposed to do it, it would seem. Decided while outside that this was a good idea, and then followed through with his plan. And honestly? I really didn't feel as though I had a disciplinary leg to stand on.

I mean, he asked if I was ready.
