monday monday

I have real things to say, and I was going to wait until I wasn't so BONE TIRED on this fine Monday morning to say them to you, but alas. I am a compulsive blogger. So I will save the good stuff for when I have a clear head, and just talk for a few minutes today.

First of all, shampoo-free? What?! Listen, I can go a long way with you. We recycle, we use cereal boxes and egg cartons for art projects. We use both sides of the paper, and practice cutting using old coloring books. We drive used cars until the wheels roll off. We squeeze the very last breath of life out of any piece of furniture that crosses our path. I can shop in thrift stores and consignment sales with the best of them. I GET the value of getting the most out of what you have, and collecting as little as possible. But I'm not giving up my shampoo. And it's going to take more than a blog post to change my mind.

Second, is there anything cuter than a baby boy playing in a diaper in the front yard - pushing around a stroller, splashing in the interminable mud puddles, falling down some, chasing the big boys some, and just generally lolling about in the grass - until after dark , then announcing, "All Done," heading back up to his front door, and marching through the house until I found him, waiting beside the bathtub, singing his bathtime song? I really don't think so. You have to admire a baby who understands the value of moderation.

Finally, for those of you who don't live nearby, Alabama really is beginning to resemble a rain forest (or at least my understanding of what living in a rain forest might be like). It hovers around 80-85* with 90% humidity, day and night. It feels as though the rain is going to materialize around you, rather than fall. And it's been cloudy - with one good downpour every day or so - for, seriously, three weeks. With more of the same in the forecast for the next ten days. When the clouds do break, it is so HUMID that it's the dead of summer all over again for ten minutes or so, until the clouds move back in. MISERABLE. Miserable. Miserable. Too wet and sticky to be outside, which means an influx of Irritable Child Syndrome city wide. Please send fall weather our way. Or summer weather, even. Anything but humidity and rain clouds.

The end. Happy Monday all.

I have friends who are shampoo-free and love it, but I need my Selsun Blue. I do use coupons to buy it and use cheap shampoo every other night.

Your friend in the neighboring Jungle-State,
Heather

I do not envy your Bama weather. We have had mid 70's with a light breeze for the last few days...

I read about the shampoo-free movement a little while back and I have to admit that I'm mildly fascinated by it. The article I read that introduced me to the concept (which I couldn't find to link to this comment) mentioned that daily shampooing is both a symptom and a cause of the decline of western civilization. It was hard to believe at first, but after reading the whole article, it began to make sense.

All that to say, I haven't yet gone shampoo free, but I have been washing with castile soap and haven't been shampooing daily. My hair looks and feels healthier and doesn't get nearly as greasy as it did when I shampooed daily with commercial shampoo.

One day I might have the patience and opportunity to try going shampoo-free for a few months. (I can't really do it while I am working in an office every day.)

I'll let you know how it turns out...
