Tonight I am

reading a book about childbirth. It's scary. You should all be very, very afraid of delivering a baby. Well, half of you should be very afraid, anyway.

and thinking about a phrase - "Esse quam videri." To be, rather than to seem.

That's all I have to say tonight, I think. Good night all.

Last week I had a friend tell me that she was more afraid of child birth than sharks. My first reaction was: Who thinks of this comparison? Obviously this conversation grew out of a need to procrastinate from whatever we were suppose to be doing for school.

I think its fair to say everyone is sufficiently afraid of it. Take drugs. Take lots and lots and lots of drugs. And don't get in any elevators or taxis. That is where all the bad child-birthing storylines evolve in movies.

My sister said all she felt was "a little bit of pressure"... of course that was after she got one of her ribs kicked out.

Mary, from what I can tell, it seems like how well you handle pain is how well you handle childbirth. But until this point, I've never been in any serious physical pain, so I have no idea how I'll handle it. My mom says all you have to remember is that it isn't chronic, and it isn't fatal. We'll see.
