today

Hi.

So. We're moving to Colorado. We think. We hope.

We don't know when. Depends on when it all comes together.

The "why" is a larger post than I am ready to write at 4:52 a.m.

But it's good. To me, anyway.

So stick around. Details to follow.

And I'm 33 today.

33 is kind of a nothing birthday, right? Not really a number worth lamenting or reflection. But this is the number that I've always carried. When you're 33, you're an adult. You're very often a parent. And Harry Chapin tells me the greatest men have all died at 33, so there's that.

I like where my life is at 33. I love my little brood. I like the chaos. I like having babies old enough to talk to one another, and young enough to still sit in my lap for stories. I like my husband. I like my friends.

All is well.

Silas had his first day in underwear - in public - with no accidents yesterday. Yay and hooray.

By the way, I'm totally the mom who lets my little boys pee in the parking lot. If you're offended, look away. They'll be done in just a second.

Also, my favorite thing that Silas does right now is tell stories. Some of them are his accounts of real events, and some are totally made up, and truthfully, very often I'm not sure which is which. But they always begin with, "When I was your age ..." or "When I was a little girl ..." or "When I was a mama ..."

It is the best thing ever.

Also, Emmy is six months old.

That happened fast, didn't it?

Little girl is all but crawling. Her movements are not quite coordinated, but she can get where she wants to go.

A baby who crawls before she sits up. The mark of a younger sibling.

And Asher is more or less reading.

Sounding out words, and half-guessing at words most times.

But the desire is there.

And while I wouldn't say he's exactly proficient at it yet, he gets it, you know? Letters make sounds, and strung together they make words, and words connect us to one another.

That's kind of a big deal.

Don't you feel caught up now?

Two weeks is a long time to go without posting.

But now that the toothpaste is out of the tube, I can be more transparent again.

Which is good news for me.

Secrecy is not my strong suit.

Happy Monday to you.

Happy birthday, Steph!!

You are not stealing. I got it from Janet years ago. Not sure where she got it from. :)

33. I call it the Jesus Year for the reason you mentioned. Honestly, it scares me. 30 doesn't bug me at all. But... Natalie died when she was 33.

Happy Birthday! My boys pee all over the place also, just the other day while we were at a packed out pool party my Asher ran over to the bushes and relieved himself, awkward.

Thanks for sharing again, Steph -- I miss your blogs when you don't post.

And I love to hear about the boys' imaginations and abilities.... I, too, love to inhabit Silas's imagination... Asher's, too.

And little Emmy? The very embodiment of joy. I wonder what she will have to say. I wonder how she will see the world. She will greet it with arms opened, smiling, just like her mama. Happy birthday. love-mMamamama

“May God grant you always...A sunbeam to warm you, a moonbeam to charm you, a sheltering Angel so nothing can harm you. Laughter to cheer you. Faithful friends near you. And whenever you pray, Heaven to hear you.”
