what i learned today

I talked to Amanda this morning, who has spent the past two and half weeks living with her husband and two children in a hotel room, awaiting power to be restored to her house in Houston. Whose house was looted while they were gone. Who started a new job the week before the hurricane. Who had been back home exactly one day when her son came down with croupe. Who is now sick herself and taking care of two sick children. That Amanda. Do you know what she talked about? Contentment. She said that whenever we are content with what God has given us to do - for whatever amount of time that contentment lasts - it's a gift. Contentment as a gift. What a good point. And the fact that she can even mutter the word "contentment" in the middle of the month she's had earns my respect because, man. Amen and thanks, Amanda.

Wow. As they say, "Bless her heart." Also, Lainey - about the cutest thing ever! Sounds like Amanda has found something rare in all this mess with her contentment. Which is aweseome and quite an inspiration.

I loved seeing all those photos of her :)

I asked her to come stay with us...wish she had!!

Altho, a hotel might be preferable...

Amen indeed! It's a good lesson for us when the tedium gets to be too, well, tedious...or when we are praying to get through whatever early childhood cross we are currently bearing (sleep disturbances, baby illness, acting up stages, etc).
