going with

First of all, Amanda is my HERO for forgetting her sound machine in Alabama and offering it to me. Yay for sound machines. We played with it for a few minutes and watched for a reaction. When I turned on the "heartbeat" option, Asher got still, so heartbeat it is. What's funny is that the whole house seems to dial down when we hear the heartbeat on the sound machine. Maybe there's a primal reaction to a heartbeat. Maybe we're all remembering the womb. Maybe it's why percussion instruments are present in every culture. Who knows. Anyway, he's a better sleeper, and I'm a happier mom, because of the sound machine.

Second, an update on Bob and Flo: We did more research on the area, and found out that Flo's neighborhood is more stable than we had originally thought. It has appreciated at the same rate as Bob, and average number of days on the market is actually fewer for Flo. So we made an offer, and it was accepted on Friday. Barring anything unforeseen, we'll be moving at the end of September. Meet Flo, everyone. Although Flo sent me an email shortly after she first appeared on the blog and said she resented the nickname, it sounded so out-of-work-waitress, and she preferred to think of herself as a little more hip than all THAT. So heretofore she will be known as ... what? Shirley? Meg? Lovey? We'll see.

P.S. Brian said this post should be named, "We're going with the Flo."

End of September eh? (rummages around for 'moving clothes') Looks like I will be clearing my schedule...I'm not sure I would still feel like part of the family if I didn't help.

Flo (perhaps she should be Lucille...kind of retro/blues/hip) is HOT, and I'm excited to see the rest.

I bought a 'sound machine' alarm clock one night because I thought "this will be better than falling asleep to SportsCenter every night. I was WAY WRONG. I took it back the next day because it was the most annoying thing ever for me. Glad it is working better for you.

Whatever her name is, she is beautiful!!! I can't wait to come sleep on your couch in the new house - in keeping with tradition of course!! Just don't move again for another 16 months after this. :) Glad that things have settled with Asher's sleeping, and even more excited that it looks like your offer is going through on the house. YAY!!! Send pictures of the inside soon!

Hooray!!!! How exciting!
You KNOW that I owe you countless moving days (I still think of moving from the 3rd floor apt. to a 2nd floor across down and shudder...That drink that we got at Guthrie's late in the evening was the best drink I have ever had!)! Yay for you and your family! Asher's first house! ;o)

love, love love it! (the house, I mean....the sound machine rocks too, though, doesn't it?) It looks ADORABLE. I just read your post where you were deciding...You so made the right decision. If you are going to be in a house for a while it absolutely doesn't matter what the resale is like. And this looks like a wonderful Steph house where I will come visit for years to come and our children will play :)

sorry...I didn't mean to say "absolutely doesn't matter what resale value is" (my real estate pro husband just corrected me). I meant it doesn't matter if it is less as in a "less than across the street". actually, I have no idea what i am talking about so i'll shut up now. but I do love it.

Great! Hope that all goes well with closing and moving. Let us know how we can help. B and I can take Asher to the Zoo while you and M'elle unpack! Isn't that what you want??? Just kidding. Glad to help.

I like the house. Nice.

I'm going to suggest Emma for the name. It's retro, yet coming back in style with the proliferation of Jane Austen fandom and their quest to rule the world. If it's not cool enough, i would suggest a last name, McHottiehopkinson. You don't have to say Emma McHottiehopkinson every time someone asks you what the name of the house is, but you would know it is very hot in your heart and that would be tres' awesome.

Congrats on the house! You must be beyond excited.

We use noise machines. I use it falling asleep when J is in the house because he will wake me, and then he turns it off when he comes to bed so we can hear the kids. Zachary gets one if we are going to be showering in the AM before he awakens, and Benjamin gets one during nap so Z does not have to be quiet (he gets a much shorter nap). However, I am always cautious not to use them all the time because I don't want the kids (or me) to get dependant upon them to sleep. So, we turn on Zachary's after he has fallen asleep without it.

THey are a godsend during the light sleeping phases, aren't they?
